My name is Shaun
Porritt and I'm the founder and Director of the Personal Balance Stress Management Clinic.
The clinic came
about as the result of a personal need for clear, easy to
understand information about stress. Through necessity in recent
years I became something of an expert on how to reduce my own
stress levels, and over time more and more people came to me for
advice about how to do the same thing.
A little
background might help; I worked for several years in the City of
London as a currency trader, responsible for deals worth
billions of pounds on a daily basis. It was, in many ways, the
perfect job - great fun, great rewards, and hugely stimulating. What I didn't realise was the toll the job was
having on my health - the pressure was immense, and it was
present 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It became harder and
harder for me to cope with the workload, until eventually I
discovered I suffer from a chronic illness, causing my adrenal
system to disintegrate,
I became seriously ill to the point where I could no longer
work. Stress wasn't necessarily the cause of my illness, but it
had certainly expedited the symptoms and I had reached a point
where my body could not tolerate even the smallest amount of
upset. My illness is incurable, with little that the medical
community can offer in terms of help, and I quickly
realised that only I could do something about managing the
condition.
I set about
finding out everything I could about stress - its causes,
effects and the very finest ways of managing it. I became a
qualified Hypnotherapist and studied all sorts of other
therapies and practices, including nutrition, exercise, yoga and
sleep all of which helped me to reduce stress, and bring my
condition to a manageable level .
What I have
refined and perfected is a combination of innovative, accessible
tools and techniques that I use on a daily basis to manage my
condition. These strategies allow me to live a 'normal' life and
that's why I know for sure that they will work for you, as
they have for many others just like you. I'm constantly
learning, and I hope you'll allow me to share some of my insight
with you.
